Welcome SIDizens of 2016!

If you haven't heard already, SID has been revamped and ready to roll this semester!

Here's what has happened so far:

Officers have been elected! Pretty soon we will have an "introductions post" of our stellar officers and then you can keep an eye out for them on campus and at each meeting on Thursday nights.

This week (tonight!) October 6th!
SIDizens!! Get PUMPED for SID this week; it's going to be an A+ event. We'll become more aware of our privilege as we examine advantages that we take for granted through an activity designed by Brenda J. Allen, Chief Diversity Officer at University of Colorado. Our hope is that Thursday night will push us to fight harder so that others can enjoy the same rights we enjoy every day.
Also, you'll leave with a wicked cool necklace to remember the night by!!

Last week's meeting was a showing of "Every Last Child" as SID headed back to the Middle East to take a look at Pakistan's polio crisis and related global health issues. Awesome turn out for the film but be sure to INVITE all of your friends, roommates, and co-workers!!

Two weeks ago, SID had the honor of hosting a young woman from Afghanistan who came to talk about her experiences and answer questions!! Despite having been targeted by the Taliban, she fought to receive a university education and works to improve women's rights in her country. Due to her involvement, she continues to receive death threats and is seeking asylum in the US. For privacy and protective reasons, she will be unnamed on here but if you felt moved by her presentation and want to help her in her endeavors, here is the link to her GoFundMe page:

And lastly, September 15th was the night of our opening social and it was a HIT! The attendance was incredible and we had the privilege of meeting such awesome students here on campus.

I hope you all will continue to come to our meetings and get involved in making the world a better place. Students for International Development thanks you for all the support! There is strength in numbers...so let's make a difference!
