Kennedy Center Lecture by Padma Venkataraman
Last week's regular meeting was replaced by an exciting lecture by Padma Venkataraman, a daughter of the former president of India. She now is the vice president Women’s India Association and initiated a highly successful program of micro finance for colonies of people suffering from leporsy in India. It offered hope that development can occur in among groups that seem completely ensared by poverty. A podcast of her lecture, Making a Difference through Service and Humanitarian Outreach: Working with Leper Outcasts in India, is available on the Kennedy Center website. A representative from Rising Star Outreach, an NGO which works with Padma Venkataraman and several BYU Alumni also spoke.
